Healthy Hair

As a hairstylist, I get this question all the time, how to keep the hair healthy? Healthy hair not only means using good products, it also means having a healthy diet. I truly believe in keeping things healthy inside and out. Let’s touch base on what foods are essential to consume and what products to use.

Food

The food types and categories that I always have and suggest to my clients are:

Protein: 95% of our hair is made of Keratin therefore, in order to strengthen the hair we need to have enough protein in our diet. Salmon, Sardines, and Red lean Meat are the best source of protein that help with the health and the strength of the hair.

Omega 3,6,9 fatty Acids: are good fats that are essential for keeping the hair shiny, hydrated, and healthy. Foods like Salmon, Sardines, Avocado, Almonds, Walnuts, and Hazel Nuts play a huge role in providing your hair all that.

Fruit: High vitamin C fruits help boost the collagen in hair, and prevent breakage. So, consume plenty of fruits like Oranges, Berries, Kiwis, Mango, Pineapples, these fruits also boost your immune system.

Supplements: Because the way our food industry works, unfortunately we don’t always get enough nutrients from our foods, so it’s recommended to take supplements along with your healthy diet. Biotin is a B vitamin, and it’s one of the most important factors for the hair growth, and I would say it is a must haves supplement. Lack of Biotin leads to thinning hair. You can find Biotin either in pills form or in your multivitamins, or powder, but also in Eggs, Spinach, Mushrooms, Oats, and Wheat Germ. Don’t forget to take your Fish Oil daily, if you are not a fan of fish oil, take the Plant based form of Omega 3 supplements.

Collagen Protein Powder is also one of the amazing sources of receiving extra boost and Strength in hair.

Products

Cleansing Shampoos: These shampoos help with removing all the resedo from your scalp that comes with hard water, other daily shampoos and conditioners, and the environment. These shampoos help the follicles to be able to breath and take as much oxygen in. When follicles receive enough oxygen, they become stronger and healthier, surprise! These shampoos are recommended once a week or if you have an oily scalp twice a week.

Shampoos High in Omega 3 And Shampoos with Biotin: These shampoos work topically and help nourish the hair from the outside. You can use these Shampoos daily or once or twice a week.

I hope you guys find this useful. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Like, comment and subscribe!

Love, xo
